Ezine Issue 101 Blessings of Opposites

It all started with some stomach issues and I pulled out a book from Louise Hay about how ailments show up because of emotional ills.   I went through my list of ailments and looked up the possible links to my emotional well-being and a few of them resonated with me.

As I worked on letting go of these old feelings of fear, unworthiness and insecurity that were rising to the surface I kept wondering why they were showing up and how they could offer me a benefit.  I know if you have ever been hurt or have felt negative emotions, it is hard to imagine there is a benefit to those feelings, but for me there truly is a blessing in everything I have ever been through.

So, what is the blessing?

In life to completely understand one thing, it helps to know the opposite.

If I did not know vulnerability, I would not fully understand and appreciate security.
If I did not know guilt, I would not be able to completely understand freedom.
If I did not experience unworthiness, I would not be able to comprehend being worthy.

My list could go on and on but my hope is that you will add some of your past/present feelings to the list and find the blessing in experiencing one thing so you can know the opposite.

-How can you find the blessing in your past experiences?
-What emotions keep showing up for you?
-Is there a benefit to experiencing one emotion so you can experience the opposite more fully?
-What negative feelings/emotions show up most often?
-What are the opposites of those feelings?

Look at any negative emotions that are bubbling up for you.  What is the opposite emotion?  Can you find peace in knowing that you went through or you are going through that experience so that you may truly experience the opposite?

Ego Ezine Issue 100

I hope you all had a great 4th of July and were able to spend time celebrating with friends and family!!  It is always great to get some time off to enjoy life!  The past few weeks what has been showing up for me the most is my EGO.  Lessons for me and messages about ego have been everywhere.  I continually work on living an egoless life, and while it seems simple enough, it is a work in progress for me. If someone gives me advice, my initial reaction is usually ego based.  If someone tells me something I don’t want to hear, my first thoughts come from my ego.  If I get upset about something, I can immediately recognize my ego wanting to taking over.  Does this ever happen to you?

Why does it matter?  Well, your ego is around to protect you and it shows up when you feel threatened or insecure.  It jumps in to make sure you are taken care of and your ego wants you to be right at any cost.  So, while protecting you, it can cause you to react in a way that may not be true.  It can cause you to take things personally or think someone is doing something on purpose when they are not.  It can lead you down the wrong path and it can have you feeling hurt and upset when that is not the most accurate reaction.  It can create a misunderstanding of others intentions when no one is purposely trying to harm you.

So, while your ego may have been helpful in certain circumstances, it is important to recognize when it is taking over and creating a mountain out of a molehill.  The first step in trying to live without your ego jumping in is to begin to recognize when this happens.  When you get upset, evaluate the situation and see if your reaction is warranted or if you are reacting to make yourself look and feel better.  If you begin to recognize your reactions as ego based, you can then begin to work through why your ego is causing you to react this way.  Did the situation make you feel insecure, wrong, stupid or inadequate?  Is that truly what someone intended?  If not, how can you remove your ego and react just to the situation and not to the feelings it caused.

Our ego’s normal reaction is to protect us from all those feelings of inadequacy, but if we can begin to remove our ego and react in a way that each situation truly warrants, we can begin to find more harmony and peace in our lives.   Are you up for the challenge?

-Do you ever over-react?
-Do you take things personally?
-Does your ego cause you to react before you think?
-How can you recognize when your ego is controlling your reactions?
-What feelings cause your ego to come out?

Think about your reactions to different situations.  Is your reaction ego based?  If so, what feelings caused your ego to take over?  How can you face your feelings and understand those feelings do not define you as a person?  Next time you feel your ego taking over, choose a different reaction.  Stop and think things through before reacting.
