Perfection EZINE ISSUE 98

Quote:  Antoine de Sainte-Exupery- “Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.”

I was in the grocery store yesterday and the clerk asked if plastic bags were ok for me and I said “that will be perfect”.  He had a hard time with me saying it was perfect and we had a brief discussion about perfection.

He was only 18, and I remember when I was that age, I could only see things as black and white- no in between for me.  He was very similar because he could not understand how I could think plastic bags were perfect.  He wanted a more concrete definition of perfection.   He said he was working towards being perfect, but he did not think he could get there for a very long time, if ever.  He could not figure out how things could seem perfect to me.

I explained that in each moment everything is “perfect” because it is happening exactly the way it is supposed to and I said each of us is “perfect” in each moment because we are exactly where we are supposed to be.  The definition of perfect is beyond improvement, having nothing wrong and if you look at things right in the moment, isn’t everything truly perfect just the way it is?  I know this can be a hard shift to make when we are taught about perfection in a different way, but what if you begin to see the perfection in everything just the way it is?

I saw an article that explained how bamboo grows.  It starts out growing underground at first before it begins to grow above ground.  During this phase, if you looked at it from the top, you would think something was wrong.  But, it grows exactly how it is supposed to grow and once it establishes it roots, it can grow extremely fast above ground.  Each of us is the same way.  We have things we need to learn and our own way of growing, but just like bamboo, it is perfect for us.  Appreciate your growth, appreciate your lessons and find your perfection!!

Questions:
-How can you find perfection in each moment?
-How can you find the perfection in you?
-Are you working towards a thing you think of as perfection, but you can’t quite seem to get there?
-If you give your best in each moment, and the definition of perfect is beyond improvement, can you see how you truly are perfect and each moment is perfect?

Fieldwork:
Go outside, take a deep breath and just look around you.  Appreciate the perfection in each thing you see.  The flowers, the grass, the sky, and even YOU!!

Enjoy the journey!
